Texas Hospital Association's Statement
on Children's Health Insurance Enrollment Changes

"The Texas Hospital Association are pleased to see Lt. Gov. Dewhurst is supporting the extension of the CHIP enrollment period from 6 months to 12 months. Texas has the highest rate of uninsured children in the nation, and the state can and should do better. Texas was smart to begin participating in CHIP in 2000, and the current Legislature has the opportunity to restore the program to it's full potential. With Lt. Gov. Dewhurst's leadership, the Senate is poised to take a meaningful step toward improving the health status of Texas children."
